One building for the home, the shop, and the storage. Ben Scott’s crew builds barndominiums and pole barns across Central Kentucky, from the site prep to the last finished wall, licensed, insured, and bonded.
A barndominium answers a very Kentucky question: why pay for a house, a garage, and a barn when one well-built structure can be all three?
The barn-style shell goes up efficiently and shrugs off weather. Inside, the space divides however your life divides: finished living quarters on one end, a workshop and equipment bays on the other, and storage overhead. For a family building on rural land, it is often the most practical building money can buy.
Scott Construction builds the full range:
A post frame is a structural system before it is a home. Post size, spacing and embedment get sized for the span and the load, and the living space is built inside a shell that was engineered to carry it.
We cut, grade and compact the site and set the drainage before the first post goes in the ground. Ground that moves later is what takes a building with it.
A barndominium used as a residence is inspected against Kentucky’s statewide building and residential code, the same as any house. We build and permit it that way from the start.
One roof, one foundation and one crew, instead of three separate structures each carrying their own cost and their own weather line.
A post-frame building is honest construction: the frame does all the work, and there is nowhere for sloppy building to hide. Posts out of plumb or trusses set wrong show up in the ridge line forever.
That is why it matters who frames it. Ben came up through welding, ironwork, and rigging before running a construction company, and the same crew that frames our custom homes sets these buildings: plumb posts, straight lines, and a roof system finished by the hands that framed it.
The living-space side gets the same care. Insulation, drywall, doors, windows, and finish carpentry are everyday work for us, with light plumbing and light electrical handled in-house and the licensed specialty trades coordinated for the full systems.
Most barndominium projects live or die in the dirt. A post-frame building wants a properly cleared, graded, well-drained pad, and on rural land that work is half the project.
It is also the half we never sub out. Scott Construction runs its own excavation and concrete: land clearing, bush hogging, grading, drainage, footers, and the slab. The same company that preps your pad frames your building, so nothing gets lost in a handoff and the schedule stays in one set of hands.
That matters most exactly where barndominiums get built: the back corner of the farm, the acreage up a gravel drive, the lot the county road barely reaches. Our crew builds there every week.
A barndominium with living space is a dwelling, and Kentucky treats it like one. The state maintains a mandatory statewide building code and residential code, so a barndominium home is permitted and inspected to the same standard as any custom home, no matter how rural the lot.
That protects you twice: the building is right, and the paper trail proves it when you insure, refinance, or sell. In Boyle County, pulling the permit also requires the contractor to hold a current county contractor’s license, show at least $350,000 in general liability insurance, and carry workers’ compensation for the crew. Scott Construction carries all of it and handles the permits as part of the job.
We build barndominiums and pole barns from Danville across Boyle County, including Perryville and Junction City, and into Mercer, Lincoln, Casey, and Jessamine counties out to Nicholasville.
Every job carries a one year workmanship warranty in writing, and roofs carry a five year manufacturer warranty on top of it. There are veteran, military, and senior discounts on materials, a single parent discount on materials, and a referral program for every finished job.
And if you are weighing a barndominium against a conventional build for your land, put the question to Ben on the ground. He builds both, so the answer you get is about your land and your budget, with real numbers attached. Start with our new home construction page to see the whole picture.
A barndominium is a barn-style building with finished living space inside, so one structure carries the home, the shop, and the storage. Scott Construction builds the full range: working pole barns with no living space, barns with a finished corner, and full barndominium homes.
Yes. Pole barns for equipment, storage, workshops, and farm use are a core part of what we build, with the same crew and the same standard as our barndominium homes.
When it includes living space, yes. Kentucky maintains a mandatory statewide building code and residential code, so a barndominium home is permitted and inspected like any other dwelling, and in Boyle County the contractor pulling the permit must show a current county contractor’s license, at least $350,000 in general liability insurance, and workers’ compensation coverage.

Yes. Every job Scott Construction does carries a one year workmanship warranty in writing, and roofs carry a five year manufacturer warranty on top of it.
