The Work

Walls and Paint, Planned as One Job.

Scott Construction KY LLC hangs, finishes and repairs drywall and paints interiors, exteriors and trim across Danville and Boyle County. The patch and the paint are handled as one job, so every repair is made with the finish that will cover it already decided.

The sheen you choose, the color, and the way light crosses the room all decide how smooth the wall has to be before any paint goes on. Settling them at the start is how a patched wall ends up matching the wall around it once the last coat is dry.

Painting and drywall run through every interior renovation we build, and they also stand as jobs of their own, whether you need a painting contractor or drywall repair alone: a water-stained ceiling after a leak, a hallway before the house is listed, a rental between tenants, or the outside of the house.

Every one of them draws on Ben Scott’s 28 years in construction and a welding, ironwork and rigging background, and all of it is done under a license, insurance and a bond.

How We Finish

Finished for the Light It Lives In.

01

The Sheen Comes First

Flat paint and a satin in a deep color ask different things of the wall underneath. The sheen and the color are chosen before the finishing starts, so the drywall work is planned for the paint that goes over it.

02

Primer Across the Whole Wall

Primer goes over the entire prepared surface, the patched joints and the untouched panel face alike, so the finish coat goes onto one uniform base.

03

Soft Wood Comes Out First

Outside, a rotted trim board or a soft run of fascia is replaced before a brush touches it. Carpentry and painting are both Scott Construction work, so the new wood is primed and painted in with the rest.

04

Clean Lines at the Trim

Nail holes in the trim are filled, the gap where casing meets the wall is caulked, and the paint is cut in sharp along the ceiling and every piece of trim.

Prep, Finish, and Paint

Hung, Taped and Finished for the Paint It Will Wear.

Our drywall services start with new board in home additions, finished basements, garages, and any room that has been opened down to the studs. The sheets are hung, the joints taped and coated, the outside corners beaded, and the fasteners covered, then the whole surface is sanded smooth for primer.

How far that finishing goes is set by the paint. GA-214, the levels-of-finish recommendations the Gypsum Association publishes with the wall, ceiling, drywall finishing and painting trade associations, pairs flat paint with Level 4: tape bedded in compound, the joints and fasteners built up in separate coats, and a smooth surface with no tool marks left in it. For satin and gloss sheens, deep colors, and walls where a window throws strong light across the surface, it refers to Level 5, a skim coat over the entire surface, because those are the conditions most likely to let the joints show through the paint.

That makes the sheen as much a part of the first conversation at the walk as the color. It shapes the work behind the paint, so it belongs before the first coat of compound rather than after the last coat of paint.

Drywall repair follows the same logic. Nail pops, stress cracks at the corners of doors and windows, a doorknob hole, a ceiling seam that has let go, and the scars a remodel leaves behind are cut back to sound material, patched, feathered out wide, and primed with the rest of the wall before the paint goes on.

Inside and Out, the Prep Comes First.

Inside, painting follows the repairs. Walls take the sheen settled at the start, and baseboard, casing, doors and stair parts get a sheen of their own, chosen for the knocks and hand marks they take. When the original trim in an older home is worth keeping, the painting is planned alongside our historic restoration work.

Outside, paint lasts as long as the surface under it, so an exterior job is won in the prep: loose paint taken off, soft boards replaced, joints caulked, and bare wood primed before a finish coat goes on.

That covers siding, trim and the outbuildings around the house. The shed in the photos on this page shows the method at small scale: the gray panels taped off so the white trim goes on with a sharp edge, and the finished building standing clean beside the drive. When the siding or the framing behind it needs more than paint, our siding and exterior renovation work handles it, and the paint follows as part of the same job.

Painting Resets for Rentals and Short-Term Stays.

Between tenants, a make-ready starts with patch and paint: anchor holes where pictures and televisions hung, scuffed hallways, a gouged corner by the door. We fill, sand, prime and repaint so the unit is ready to show again.

For owners with more than one property, our property management work covers that patching and painting along with the repairs a unit collects, and our Airbnb resets put fresh paint on the scuffed walls and chipped trim that guest after guest wears into a short-term rental. A touch-up only blends in when it goes on in the same color and the same sheen, so it pays to keep both written down for every unit.

When a Leak Reaches the Drywall.

Scott Construction answers flood, water leak and electrical short calls 24/7 through our emergency repair service. Once the source is stopped, soaked board is cut out past the wet line and the cavity is opened to dry, then the wall is rebuilt with new drywall, tape, compound, primer and paint to finish the repair.

When the leak traces back to plumbing, light plumbing is handled in-house, and licensed plumbers are coordinated when the system needs full rework.

For the house itself, the EPA advises drying water-damaged areas and items within 24 to 48 hours to prevent mold growth, which is why a leak is worth a call the day it is found.

Straight Answers

Painting and Drywall Questions.

Do You Patch Drywall and Paint It to Match?1

Yes. The patch is cut back, filled, feathered and primed, then painted. Whether the paint covers only the repair or the whole wall depends on the age, sheen and color of the paint already there, and Ben tells you which one your wall needs when he sees it.

Can Water-Damaged Drywall Be Repaired?2

Yes. Once the source is stopped, the soaked board is cut out past the wet line, the cavity is dried, and new drywall is hung, finished, primed and painted to meet the old. Leaks are part of our 24/7 emergency response, and the EPA notes that porous materials that become moldy may have to be thrown away.

Why Can I See Drywall Seams Through the Paint?3

The trade name for it is joint photographing: the finished joints shadowing through the paint. GA-214 notes that sheen and deep colors highlight small differences in a surface, and that strong light from a window or a fixture can exaggerate them. It names a skim coat over the entire surface, its Level 5 finish, as the most effective way to minimize joint photographing, which is why the sheen and the light are best settled before the finishing starts.

Does New Drywall Need Primer Before It Is Painted?4

Yes. The Gypsum Association’s application specification, GA-216, requires a good quality drywall primer before decoration, and GA-214 recommends that the painting specification include one over the entire prepared surface. It is formulated for the finish that goes over it, and it covers the patched joints and the bare panel face alike.

Can Interior Painting and Drywall Be Done in the Winter?5

Yes. Interior painting and drywall work carries on through the winter. GA-214 calls for a minimum of 50 degrees Fahrenheit, held continuously for 48 hours before and throughout the finishing, and a Gypsum Association column puts the ideal range for drying joint compound at 65 to 80 degrees with 20 to 40 percent relative humidity. Each coat dries before it is sanded and the next one goes on.
